Watercolour Painting - Essentials Kit

Watercolour Painting - Essentials Kit

What’s in your kit: Watercolour Paints, HB Pencil, Putty Rubber, Watercolour Pad, Brushes

Watercolour is a painting method in which the paints are made of pigments and are activated when used with water. There are a few certain rules to follow with watercolour to get the most out of your painting.

Always paint with your pale colours first and slowly build up your colours, this is because watercolour is a translucent material and you cannot build on top of darker colours.

It is also good to note that water seals graphite so make sure your hard pencil lines are removed otherwise you will be able to see them through your painting.

It is best to always let layers dry completely unless blending of colours is your desired effect. There are different types of washes in watercolour which you can use to your desired effect.

Try wetting your paper and a wet brush full of colour for a more ‘washed’ effect. Dry paper and a wet brush loaded with paint will allow you more control for lines and avoid bleeding of colours. You can even use a dry brush with paint on a dry picture to add texture!
